Carpet Cleaning Tips for New Homeowners

If you're a new homeowner you have the pleasure of having your own house. You also have the responsibility of taking care of your home. There's no landlord to call, just you. So, if you have a carpeted home, you need to know how to clean your carpets or have the number of your local professional carpet cleaning service Either one will do.

Don't Scrub Your Carpet Please
The first and most important thing to learn about carpet cleaning, is to make sure you dab carpet stains, not scrub them. Scrubbing will set the stains in and that's not what you want to do. Just dab the stains. If you don't know what dab means, it's a patting motion. So never scrub your carpet, just lightly dab it.

Try Clear Vinegar and Baking Soda on Your Carpet
You don't need to use heavy duty carpet cleaning solution for most carpet stains. This is especially true if you take care of the stains as soon as possible. A simple mixture of baking soda and vinegar does wonders. Here's what we suggest:

  • Pour a cup of baking soda on the carpet stain.
  • Then proceed to pour a cup of white vinegar on the carpet stain.
  • Let the vinegar and baking soda mixture sit for 10 to 20 minutes. (If the stain is really bad or set in, let it sit for an hour.)
  • Dab the vinegar and baking soda mixture up with a clean washcloth.
  • If you notice a lingering odor, then spray the stain down liberally with white vinegar. This should reduce the stain and odor significantly.
Always Take Care of Carpet Stains Quickly
If you really want to keep your carpets looking good, then make sure you clean up any carpet stains as soon as they happen. Don't let a carpet stain sit there. Take care of them immediately, if not sooner.
